Pitstop - Mens Health
Supporting men’s health in the Riverina region
About the Service ( Factsheet)
Pitstop is a health promotion initiative, held annually at the Henty Machinery Field Days and Broken Hill Agfair, designed to reach rural men who do not regularly visit their General Practitioner. The program is based on a car mechanical theme specifically targeting men and encouraging them to make the time and effort to look after their own health and wellbeing just as they would make the time and effort to look after their vehicle.
Participation in Pitstop involves each man traveling through a series of health screening stations that includes:
- Chassis Check - Waist measurement and AUSDRISK
- Spark Plugs - Prostate (for 40+) and testicular (under 40)
- Duco - Skin
- Oil Pressure - Blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol
- Fuel Additives - Alcohol
- Exhaust - Smoking and Lung health
- Shock Absorbers - Mental Health
- General Practitioner (GP) Review
Recommendations and advice are provided at each station and participants receive a free maintenance bag at registration containing brochures and information on the health issues discussed at each screening station. On completion of all the screening stations the participant is provided with a review from a local General Practitioner. The GP Review station also encourages participants to follow up with their local General Practitioner on a regular basis.
If you are a GP or GP Registrar and would like to be involved (September 2011), please fill out your preferences here
