Providing access to Allied Health Services in rural communities

About the Service ( Factsheet)

The More Allied Health Services (MAHS) service aims to improve the health of people living in rural areas by providing access to Allied Health Care professionals who are linked with local General Practices. Allied health professionals will provide clinical services to referred patients either on an individual or a group treatment basis. For individual treatment, these services may include face-to-face treatment, case conferencing and care planning. For group treatment, services might include preventative / educational intervention for clients with existing conditions.

At present the MAHS Program employs three Allied Health Professionals and they provide services to twelve towns within the Division. For further detail on each discipline refer to the table below.

A new incentive aimed at helping GPs to provide better health care for Indigenous Australians will start in May this year. The new incentives under the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) includes a one-off sign on payment, annual patient registration payments and ‘outcome’ payments.
