Supporting Practice Nurse competency and increasing local cervical screening rates

About the program (  Factsheet)

The GP Supported Routine Cervical Screening Service was implemented to support General Practice Nurses that have completed the Family Planning Australia ‘Well Women’s’ Course to maintain their competence and confidence in cervical screening and to increase local cervical screening rates. The Cervical Screening Clinic operates from the Wagga GP After Hours facility one Thursday evening per month between 5pm and 7pm. The specially trained General Practice Nurse for each clinic is supported by a female General Practitioner with a particular interest in women’s health. Patients must nominate their usual General Practitioner to access the service. A copy of the patient’s Pap Test results are sent to the General Practitioner nominated by patient. The service is provided at no cost to the patient.
