Accreditation Standards 

Accreditation standards for General Practice are set by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), and cover the following key areas of general practice:

• Practices Services.
• Rights and Needs of Patients.
• Safety, Quality Improvement and Education.
• Practice Management.
• Physical Factors.

• an efficient practice with minimal risk
• increasing recognition with Insurance Companies
• promotional tools to position your practice as a safe environment for patients
• improved staff morale through increased management efficiencies
• opportunities to participate in quality improvement upskilling
• receipt of accreditation news via newsletters, bulletins and internet
• for GPs access to the HIC Practice Incentive Program (PIP); RACGP CPD points, and 40 ACRRM PDP and 20 ACRRM mandatory points.

 Division Support 

The Division offers support to GPs and all practice staff for practice accreditation and reaccreditation through practice visits, resource provision and IM/IT assistance.

You can arrange for a visit to your practice by Division staff for general advice or resource provision in relation to accreditation or re-accreditation. Advice can also be provided by phone, fax and email.

Accreditation Resources

• RACGP website (www.racgp.org.au) The RACGP is the author of the Standards for General Practices that are required to be met for practice accreditation/re-accreditation.
• AGPAL website (www.agpal.com.au) AGPAL is one of the two accrediting organisations.  AGPAL has made a manual to assist practices with the production of their own Practice Policies and Procedures Manual.
• GPA Accreditation plus (www.gpa.net.au) GPA is the second of the accrediting organisations.
